Accepting the role of co-ordinating PPI

I joined the APPRAISE research study as a PPI. This month I was given the opportunity to step up my involvement and role within the project as a co-ordinating PPI. I’m very much looking forward to getting more involved with the team at Leeds Beckett University.

See https://www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/research/iris/appraise/ for further details.

Professional Development

I really enjoyed attending this informative presentation by Alicia Edge that explained the importance of exploring behavioural patterns and nutrition, the impact on performance, the signs and symptoms of RED- S (Relative Energy Deficiency) and challenging ideas about setting body weight targets in sport and the effect on performance.

RED-S is a syndrome where athletes, regardless of gender or skill level, experience poor health and declining performance due to insufficient food intake, unable to support their energy needs during training and daily activities.

MASIC Webinar: Instrumental Delivery: Exploring the Impact on Maternal Health

Another excellent webinar that revealed the stark reality and results of a survey conducted by MASIC in November 2022, investigating women's experiences of Forceps or Ventouse-assisted vaginal births. The survey aimed to assess women's pre-labour awareness of instrumental delivery, their postnatal care experiences, and their suggestions for improving information for future deliveries. With a two-month run across the MASIC website and social platforms, 703 UK women who had undergone instrumental delivery participated.

This webinar also offered insight into the differences in training and outcomes of instrumental delivery in Netherlands compared to the UK.
