September

This month, I discovered that I had fractured my sacrum (pink shaded area) after a very hard and painfull fall on a tiled floor at home. Nearly four weeks had passed by the time an MRI confirmed the diagnosis: an "H-shaped" insufficiency fracture.

The timing couldn't have been worse, as we had planned a highly active water sports holiday. My hopes of returning to windsurfing and waterskiing were quickly dashed, along with my plans to compete in swimming at the end of September.

This injury also raised concerns about my bone health, making me worry it might not be as strong as I had hoped. Fortunately, after further evaluation through a DEXA scan, it turned out to be a stroke of bad luck rather than an indication of declining bone strength. Learning this was a huge relief especially as I am navigating through perimenopause. Like any aspect of my wellbeing, my bone health is not something I take for granted.

For now, I've shifted my focus to recovery, taking time to reflect and catch up on other areas while my usual training is temporarily on hold. Once again, I'm back in the familiar cycle of rehabilitation, learning how to keep moving and move forwards without aggravating the injury.

However, I am still teaching and working as usual.

By the end of December, I hope to be fully recovered and ready to pick up where I left off.
