Swim England South East Masters Long Course 1500m at K2

That moment when look up at the results board and see how you have done…

It was a win just to get on the blocks for this race after a turbulent few months of health issues with a painful minor op two weeks before this event.

Although, I should be proud to have competed, my ego couldn’t help but feel the 'sting of almost'—just two seconds shy of my goal. While it wouldn’t have changed my placement, it still lingered in my mind and has spurred me on to improve.

I'm also deeply grateful for that inner voice that keeps pushing me forward when things get tough. It's given me resilience, courage, and strength to navigate the rollercoaster of life a birth injury has left me with. Despite it being 26 years ago it continues to challenge me.

Much like the emotions of race day, there have been highs and lows and also the hope of 'almost there', and so the journey continues on to the next event.

Colostomy UK - Tidings magazine Spring 2025 Issue 77

This year I am continuing to support the stoma charity, Colostomy UK by writing a column in their award winning ‘Tidings’, magazine.

As well as my ‘Ask Jo’, column I wrote a piece about how I have had to overcome a recent setback. For many ostomates the journey to stoma is not easy and returning to activity and exercise can be challenging for many reasons. My aim is to support and inspire those with a stoma to confidently rediscover an active lifestyle in their own way.
